There are phrases that creep into your daily vocabulary over time. Little slangs that you use once or twice, but in time, they can weave themselves into the fabric of your communication style. Little things like substituting "yeah" for "yes". No big deal right? Maybe yeah and yes are not the best examples in the world, but you get the point.
Then there are other phrases that you hear. You think they are catchy and witty, and you begin using them... I mean, you using them all the time... Sometimes you use more than one of these "catchy and witty" phrases to describe something in a single sentence. It has got to stop. Instead of using these particular sets of words to describe something, go to the store and buy yourself a dictionary, or bookmark this link and spend some time learning some new words.
Are you ready for the two that grind against every fiber of my soul every time I hear them used in conversation?
Phrase One (That you should never say again)
What does this phrase mean??? Used properly, I have no problem... Something like: "At the end of the day, the sun sets." Perfect... No issue with that.... However, it is usually bastardized into something like: "At the end of the day, its gotta be done." Why not just say that its gotta be done? Better yet, define what the hell "IT" is....
Phrase Two (That you should never say again)
Again, what the hell does this mean? I'm not sure I've ever heard this one used correctly yet... I guess saying something like: "The reality is speaking this sentence in public should be a crime." Actually, I don't think there is a correct use for this little nugget of phonetic trash.
These two phrases by themselves are bad enough, but using them together has become commonplace as well. Usually something like "At the end of the day, the reality is...(insert what should have been the beginning of your sentence here)".
What do you think? Am I wrong?
