The World of Favlets

I'm sure if you have spent any amount of time on the web, you are familiar with "Favorites" or "Bookmarks", but have you ever heard of a "Favelet" or "Bookmarklet"?? If you haven't, you're not alone, but they can be very helpfull if you do any kind of web development, or need quick shortcuts to some of your favorite content without leaving the page your viewing... Lost yet? Don't worry, I'll try to explain it in more detail below. Wikipedia defines a bookmarklet as: A bookmarklet is a small JavaScript program that can be stored as a URL within a bookmark in most popular web browsers, or within hyperlinks on a web page. Because Internet Explorer uses the term favorites instead of bookmarks, bookmarklets are also less commonly called favlets or favelets. In a nutshell, you find a favlet you like, like this DOM viewer from slayeroffice.com. Once you click on the DOM viewer link above, you will see a view of my site. This is the favlet I use most often when working on web projects... Very helpful if you've got a dynamic nested div problem... Finding the missing ending div can be a nightmare sometimes. Slayeroffice also offers a

Pay DSL Bill = Online Web Site

Sucks to be broke! Glad to be back online finally. Disturbing a geeks connection to the Internet should not be allowed! Happy Friggin holidays! Oh, found this the other day while searching for some sample mp3's for a post I wrote about the RAZR phone.... Totally not safe for work... It's disturbing that people can be so twisted... Don't understand.... look for yourself (NSFW).

Found Yahoo Mail Password Limit

Just a FYI for anyone that cares... Yahoo Mail (current version) not the new Yahoo Mail Beta (have not been selected to test it yet) has a password limit of 32 characters. Which is kind of a bummer, I was adding a few extra characters every week to see how many characters I could remember from memory as my password.... Guess my max is 32 :) Have not tried changing my gmail password to see if there is a similar limitation, I'm guessing not, but I'll post after I try.

Torrents come alive with speed like this...

Researchers from the U.S. Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford Linear Accelerator Center recently joined an international team in shattering the world network speed record. To capture first place in the SC|05 Bandwidth Challenge, the team of high energy physicists, computer scientists and network engineers led by the California Institute of Technology transferred physics data at a rate of over 150 gigabits per second--equivalent to downloading over 130 DVD movies in one minute.

Awesome Christmas Light Display

My buddy Steve sent this link to me today. This christmas light display trumps any other display I have ever seen on the web. Not sure if it's done in real time or spliced together using stills with each section of lights being on and then syncing it to the music, but either way, someone spent a TON of time getting this accomplished. AWESOME CHRISTMAS LIGHT DISPLAY (You should really have your speakers turned on for this)

Mame, Pinball Style

The only experience I had ever had with Pinball on my Windows machine had been 3D Pinball Space Cadet, which is included with Windows XP by default. The other day, while trolling around the web I stumbled upon PinballSim.com. It's what Mame is to Arcade Machine Emulation, but for pinball machines. They have all my favorite pinball games. To name a few, Alien Poker, Playboy (1978), Twilight Zone, and a ton more... Some of the emulated tables are better than others. Some are dead-on accurate, and others lack the nuances that made some of the tables great... Emulation is about the only way you're ever going to play some of these tables... Just take a look at the Pinball Machine Category on Ebay, and you'll soon find out how expensive some of these tables cost these days. Not to mention the room you would need in your home to set them up. The pinballpack.zip file is kinda large, at 19.5mb, but it includes 3 tables to get you started. Once you've had enough of those, there are tons more on their Additional Tables page. This must be more popular than I first thought, because there are also Special Pinball enabled keyboards available... Who knew... Check it out, you'll have some fun.

New users

There is a problem with my server sending e-mail to new users with their login information. I have been sending e-mails manually for the past month or so, but I am behind... I will send passwords to all the new users that have signed up recently tonight, and will try to get this issue fixed as soon as possible, to all the new users "Sorry!" I suck! Thinking of moving back to a hosting company so the uptime is better. However, the space needed to host some of the galleries may be a bit much to keep online. Will let everyone know about the move as it draws nearer... Hopefully the process will be seamless. Also thinking of changing the look of the site, any comments would be awesome. Should it change? stay the same? tiny tweaks? let me know!

Make Geeks Wear Real Clothes?

if (Geeks != real_clothes){ alert(new_genericgeek_article); } :) For too many years, geeks have been abusing their roots as antisocial miscreants who could do things normal people couldn't do. Companies needed computer work done and would tolerate these freaks roaming around data centers. Do not poke the geek because he may ruin you if make him angry. Today, guys like Sun Microsystems CEO Scott McNealy and that loser Tim O'Reilly still embrace this mentality. They're businessmen of the highest caliber and run around in jeans and sweaters. This makes people way down on the totem pole think that sandals, torn jeans and KISS T-shirts will suffice as proper work attire. Not true. Not anymore. Quite frankly, I'll happily cheer a room full of Indians who just took your jobs - if they're well-dressed. There's a certain dignity to outsourcing. It's called a tie.
