I'm not usually political

I did not vote for Bush (either time). I thought that the country would continue on no matter who was at the helm. I always figured that if things got bad enough, people would become involved in the situation and that the will of the people would be heard. With the war in Iraq, the devaluation of the dollar, and the loss of our civil liberties in recent years, I think that people have seen enough to finally become involved in voicing their concerns and trying to make a change.

I have never given money to a presidential candidate.
I never donate $2 to the president campaign when I fill out my income taxes.
I have never voted in a presidential primary.

However, this year, when I was at a point in my life where I had less than a hundred dollars in my checking account, I donated to a presidential campaign. I have watched more political news in the past 3 months than I have watched in the past 3 years. I feel an excitement for the American way of life that I have not felt in a long time.

Our country has lost its way. When we see things on TV that we know are wrong. When we see things in the newspaper or from headlines we read on the Internet, things we know are wrong. Things we know shouldn't happen to innocent people, people with rights, people who are American citizens.

I am convinced that our country needs to move in a new direction. A direction where we are not at war, a direction where the government does not remove the freedoms of its own people, while at war with other nations, under the guise of "spreading freedom".

If you have a few moments, watch this video. Then google the name "Ron Paul". Maybe you will become as excited as I am for a new direction for our country.

LCD screens on RAZR V3

I recently changed out the housing on my RAZR V3 and severed the flex cable. I bought a new flex cable and carefully installed it. Powered up the phone, heard the familiar start-up tones but the LCD screens are black. arrrggg!

I was able to make calls, lucky I dialed correctly but it's not displaying anything. I've been told I could have damaged the flex cable during installation or that the LCD connector has been damaged.

WTH - Any idea what I did?

Razr V3 flex cable severed

I recently attempted to change out the housing on my Motorola Razr V3 and was almost done until I commited a BIG NO-NO. I severed the flex ribbon. Words cannot describe how angry I was at myself. Calm, but angry.

This brings me to a question - all the ringtones I donwloaded and photos I snapped, are they gone for good? Or is it a simple matter of ordering another flex cable and carefully installing it? Where is this kind of stuff stored?

Thanks,
DAF

Capitalize First Letter of Variable

Needed this the other day... Not sure where it came from or where I found it, but it's really handy ASP function to have in an include file, so you can use it when you need it. Function Capitalize(X) 'return a string with the first letter of the word capitalised If IsNull(X) Then Exit Function Else lowercaseSTR = CStr(LCase(X)) OldC = " " MyArray = Split(lowercaseSTR," ") For IntI = LBound(MyArray) To UBound(MyArray) For I = 1 To Len(MyArray(IntI)) If Len(MyArray(IntI)) = 1 Then newString = newString & UCase(MyArray(IntI)) & " " ElseIf I=1 Then newString = newString & UCase(Mid(MyArray(IntI), I, 1)) ElseIf I = Len(MyArray(IntI)) Then newString = newString & Mid(MyArray(IntI), I, 1) & " " Else newString = newString & Mid(MyArray(IntI), I, 1) End If Next Next 'IntI Capitalize = Trim(newString) End If End Function If you have a variable called "test", you would use like this: dim test test = Capitalize(test)

MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0 error troubleshooting

Ran into a brick wall today while attempting to setup the MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0 object. I didn't know until Much later that the server I was attempting to make the call from was on a proxy... I kept getting "Access Denied" errors when loading the page until I did the following: Go into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ directory and find the file named "winhttp.dll". Copy this file and then paste it into the same directory. It will make a copy called "Copy of winhttp.dll". Right-click this file and rename it to "winhttp5.dll". Open a command line, and type the following commands to setup the dll for your proxy: CD\ CD WINNT CD SYSTEM32 proxycfg -p your-proxy-ip-or-domain-for-your-proxy-goes-here If you do it properly, you'll get the following information displayed on your screen: Microsoft (R) WinHTTP Default Proxy Configuration Tool Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 2001. Updated proxy settings Current WinHTTP proxy settings under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\ WinHttpSettings : Proxy Server(s) : whatever-you-put-as-your-proxy Bypass List : (none) Re-run your page that uses the MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0 object, and it should run like a champ.... Hope this helps, it took me about an hour to track this info down today from all over the web.
